Description
A mixed media, hand-signed, original wood panel icon by Simon Lee Robson.
A rustic, handcrafted icon inspired by the original The Crucifixion icon (late 16th–early 17th century, Emmanuel Lambardos, Cretan School).
All three parts of Eikṓns (I, II, & III) are brought together in Eikṓns Collected Works | 2025, presenting a reverent collection of rustic, handcrafted Byzantine Greek and Russian Eastern Orthodox icons. These mixed media originals honour the deep traditions of Orthodox Christian art while introducing a contemporary, artisanal sensibility.
For the Eikṓns collection, Robson shifts his focus to the sacred, producing beautifully crafted reproductions of Orthodox Christian icons that capture the spiritual depth and timelessness of this ancient art form. Each icon is a unique mixed media piece, meticulously crafted using a range of traditional techniques. Beginning with a print decoupage on a reclaimed wooden panel, the surface is then built up with multiple coats of stainer, varnish, egg tempera, and water lacquer, incorporating distressing techniques to enhance texture and depth, resulting in a faux antique patina that evokes the character of aged sacred art. Select icons are elegantly framed in gilt or natural wood, enhancing their timeless, devotional character.
Religious icons can be displayed individually or curated together to create a dedicated icon corner. These bespoke pieces serve as both sacred objects and captivating works of art. Each piece is a one-of-a-kind original. These sacred works are available in extremely limited numbers, offering a rare opportunity to acquire an authentic devotional piece, deeply rooted in Orthodox tradition and artisanal craftsmanship.
In addition, a small number of early prototypes, previously held in the artist’s private studio, are now being made available. Though simpler and unfinished, these formative pieces offer a unique glimpse into Robson’s creative process and the evolution of the Eikṓns collection.
