The Surreal Visions collection is a powerful series of artworks that dives into surreal and otherworldly experiences embedded within moments of human history and imagination. This collection traverses real-world horrors, cosmic terror, and the bizarre, inviting viewers into scenes where the strange and unreal intrude upon the familiar. It uses surrealism to depict the haunting echoes of war and the deep-seated fears of humankind, both earthly and otherworldly.

Wartime spectres

One focal point of the collection is the brutal reality of war, particularly the horrors faced by soldiers in World War I and World War II. The trenches, with their heavy mud, piercing gunfire, and ever-present sense of death, become eerie stages where the mind plays tricks under unbearable pressure. Soldiers have reported paranormal experiences during the height of battle—a phantasmal figure seen amid the fog of war, or religious apparitions that seemed to offer brief hope or terrifying warning. In these surreal moments, soldiers’ minds struggled to process the horrors they faced, creating a bridge between the real and the paranormal. The artwork captures these visions, portraying malevolent phantoms hovering over soldiers in trenches or religious figures silently watching from the edges of no-man’s land.

Lovecraftian nightmares

Shifting from history into the realms of sci-fi and horror, the Surreal Visions collection also explores Lovecraftian themes, especially the concept of cosmic horror popularised by H.P. Lovecraft. One of the most iconic figures of Lovecraft’s world is Cthulhu, an inter-dimensional entity said to be asleep beneath the ocean, whose awakening could bring untold chaos. The surreal artwork brings to life scenes where cosmic beings emerge from beyond the stars, blending science fiction with horror, creating haunting visions of humans encountering their worst fears in both their surroundings and their psyche.
